Introduction：

The Mai Po Wetlands and the marshes and the mudflats of Inner Deep Bay are located at the North Western tip of Hong Kong. For decades, this area is the heaven for migratory birds. Since September 1995, this area of about 1,500 hectares has been listed as a Ramsar wetland. This is a crucial migratory bird relay station and wintering stop with adequate food supply along the route between East Asia and Australia. The number of migratory bird wintering around Mai Po and Inner Deep Bay every year is as much as 68,000; they fly back to the north for breeding every spring.

72% of the birds found in Hong Kong can be seen in Mai Po including many endangering species, among which 25% of the world population of the black-faced spoonbills. This tour covers parts of the Ramsar wetland. Our professional guides will show you around Mai Po Nature Reserve. In addition to the Mai Po Nature Reserve, we will go on the boardwalks and explore the marshes and the mudflats of Inner Deep Bay. We will check out the bird hides, ponds and the Wildlife Education Centre. We will get near to the mangrove area and the instructor will explain about its eco system. You will learn more about the Ramsar wetland in Hong Kong while admiring the wonderful scenery of Inner Bay and the rustic fishpond landscape.

Ever imagine witnessing over a thousand water birds wintering and feeding in close distance. This is what we are going to do in Mai Po. Since November 2007, the Nature Reserve has opened a 600 meter new boardwalk stretching all the way to the middle of the sea; birdwatchers as a result can get in closer range of hundreds of migratory birds. Every November to April is the prime time of watching migratory birds. We are talking over a hundred species, over a thousand birds resting and feeding in this area.
